more snow, snow & more

by ashleyandersondances

Below find a link to about the twentieth article on the Nutcracker (slight exaggeration) the New York Times has paid Alistair Macaulay to write this season.  Seriously? I love holiday related things (Mother Buffoon included) but are there other things to write about?

Maybe someone wants to write a Nutcracker manifesto for the journal? Or another kind. Submissions due Jan 15th to lovedancemore@gmail.com

Either way, below the link I’ve posted a gem of a dance sequence from White Christmas to console myself.
Maybe I’ll write a review of it.

remember remember

that all your reviews/comments are welcome. Juan Aldape (past Sugar Show winner) will be writing about the final Sugar Show & Mallory Rosenthal will be writing about Cipher. But feel free to add your thoughts to the threads or send them via e-mail.

And if you aren’t up to reviewing a show at least come up with a MANIFESTO to include in volume 2 of the journal.
e-mail to lovedancemore@gmail.com

for consideration in the publication

your MANIFESTO can be about any number of topics and presented in any number of ways
it can be a play on an old manifesto (i.e. yvonne rainer’s “no manifesto”)
it can be a paper about dance manifestos
it can be your own personal thoughts on your dance practice (i.e. improvisation, making dances, a specific technique, somatics)
it can be how you feel about the dance community, funding in dance, current curatorial trends

because it’s cold out

by ashleyandersondances

…and the cold brings out various ailments, I thought it would be a good time to post info about Dan Schmidt’s new Feldenkrais classes on Tuesday afternoons.

He teaches ATM  (Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement) at Vitalize studio in Sugarhouse. Class is Tuesdays at noon and costs just $10.

He writes…”The lessons are relaxing, gentle explorations, often done lying down. Please bring soft clothes and maybe a blanket. I will supply mats. Attending class is simple- just come in, lay down, move gently, learn cool stuff, and leave feeling better.  We’ll be done early enough for you to go back to your day by 1PM.”

For more info on these classes and other somatics-related posts visit http://www.somanaut.wordpress.com
